Fellowship of the Whities!
Becky - So God has an awesome sense of humour...the past few days, while we've been spending time at the church, I have been attending the Ladies' Bible study that Pastor Jasper's wife Rose leads, and learning more about how the church runs, how the sponsorship program runs, teaching some new procedures etc - through all of this, Mike and I have been having a bit of a feeling these past couple days - of missing the fellowship that comes with your usual 2-week mission trips. The nightly worship, the support and encouragement from fellow believers...we have tons of fellowship hear, and tons of worship!! But there's just something about being with others from a similar background, and on a similar wavelength. We're definitely the minoirty here, and the few white people we've seen I've pretty much run over to them to say hi and find out where they're from - but 9 times out of 10 they are from Europe and don't speak English. SO - Mike and I started praying about how we were craving some familiar fellowship...and we run into a couple that day - who are actually friends of Daniel and Lindsay Howard, and they recognised the vehicle we came in and called us over. Long story short - we shared a meal with them, and went to a "missionary fellowship night" at a young couple's place. We had candle-lit worship (songs we knew!!), had a prayer & sharing time, and met about 20 people involved in various ministries here in Kisumu. Some from the US, the UK, you name it. It was so awesome - we'll be going there weekly, and Mike and I are now connected in another Bible study - one for ladies and one for men. I'm sure God was just laughing when we were sad that we were missing our fellowship back home...and He dropped it right in our laps that day after we prayed! Today we had lunch with one of the girls I met last night, and her 3 friends in Med School. The girl from last night is a Christian but her 3 friends that she brought today aren't - so there's already a ministry opportunity. Also the caretaker here at our apartment has asked us to get him a Bible - and to ask us questions that he has about it. We are so excited about what God is doing already!
